Piercing Description

Earlobe piercings are one of the most common piercings worldwide and are often many people’s very first piercing. At Tacoma’s Best Piercing, we perform earlobe piercings for a wide variety of clients - from young children to clients in their 90s.

After years of experience working with children, we have chosen to offer earlobe piercings starting at 6 years old. Around this age, many children begin developing the maturity needed to better understand the process, communicate their feelings, weigh their options, and participate in the decision to get pierced.

We believe children should be active participants in the decision - not simply brought in unexpectedly for a piercing. Our goal is to create a positive, respectful, and empowering experience where your child feels informed, comfortable, and supported throughout the process.

Preparing Your Child

Many children in this age group are very excited to get their ears pierced, but preparation beforehand makes a huge difference in how smoothly the appointment goes.

We strongly encourage parents/guardians to:

• Be honest about the experience
  Let them know there will be a quick moment of pain and that we use sterile needles similar to those used in medical settings. Children generally handle the appointment much better when they are prepared instead of surprised.
• Talk through the process beforehand
  Discuss what the appointment may look and feel like, along with the responsibility that comes with healing piercings.
• Consider how they typically handle things like vaccines or shots
  This is often one of the best indicators of overall readiness.
  

We never pressure children into getting pierced. If a child is uncertain, overly fearful, or clearly does not want the piercing, we may recommend waiting until they feel more ready and confident.

Tandem Piercing Option

We offer tandem piercings (both ears pierced simultaneously by two piercers), which many children in this age range prefer because the process feels faster and more manageable.

A Few Important Things to Consider Before Booking

For the smoothest healing experience, we recommend avoiding scheduling ear piercings immediately before:

• Frequent swimming
• Sports or activities requiring jewelry removal
• Camps, vacations, or water-related activities

Healing earlobe piercings require consistency, patience, and proper care. Most earlobe piercings take approximately 3–4 months to fully heal enough for jewelry changes. We use only high-quality implant-grade jewelry appropriate for initial piercings. Because of  this, we generally cannot use outside jewelry unless it meets strict professional safety standards.
