All clients must bring valid ID. Minors must bring required guardian documentation. Please review our appointment policies before booking.

Why do we pierce the ages that we pierce?

At our studio, your health and safety are our top priorities. We want every piercing experience to be as smooth, safe, and positive as possible — not just during the appointment, but during the healing process too.
That’s why we’ve made thoughtful decisions when it comes to what piercings we do at what ages. Here’s why we have found that these age ranges matter:

1. For Babies: 9 months and younger
Infants younger than 9 months typically don’t have the motor skills to reach for or touch their ears, which means they’re unlikely to interfere with the healing process by pulling and/or contaminating the piercings.

2. For Kids: 6 Years
Children over the age of 6 can understand instructions and are often able to follow simple guidelines - like not touching or playing with their new piercing. Kids 6+ can also help in the healing process by being more willing to let their parents thoroughly clean their piercings. This level of understanding makes healing easier and smoother.

3. For Teens: 13 Years and Older

Popular piercings such as helix, nostril, and navel piercings can take 6+ months to fully heal. During this time, the piercee must be cautious as to not irritate the piercing and to clean it properly. Anatomy is also important to take into consideration with such piercings, kids 13 years old and older are typically entering puberty where growth of the ear, nostril, etc. can be better accounted for and predicted when placing piercings.

4. For Older Teens: 15 Years and Older

Some piercings are considered "advanced" because they require more in-depth understanding of the piercing and aftercare. These piercings, although safe, require more attention than other piercings and are more likely to cause permanent damage if not cared for correctly and carefully. Examples include tongue, industrial and "Ashley" piercings.

5. For Adults: 18+

Piercings such as microdermals, surface piercings, and nipple piercings are reserved for adults only. These piercings can be considered more "invasive" - microdermals and surface piercings are often performed with a biopsy punch and nipple piercings entail undressing in order to access the area. We will happily pierce you on your birthday though, we understand what it's like to be eager for your dream piercings!

6. Exceptions: Sometimes and up to piercer discretion

Occasionally, we will have clients reach out to us to ask about exceptions to our listed piercing ages. These requests are reviewed and ultimately up to piercer discretion. For example: You have a 5 year old that wants to get her ears pierced. If you want to inquire about an exception please email us at  tacomasbestpiercing@gmail.com.

We want all of our clients to have the best possible experience from start to finish, and sometimes that just means waiting for the right time. If you have any questions or would like to plan for the future, we’re always happy to help!
